Mildred Hunnicutt St. John passed away on March 29, 2013. She was born in Seneca, S.C., on December 30, 1919, but moved to Jacksonville and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She met and married Lee Dell St. John, Jr., her loving husband of 60 years. He predeceased her in 2002. She was a member of the very large and loving Hunnicutt family, and was predeceased by her 10 brothers and sisters.
She was active in the Southside Junior Woman’s Club before moving to Orlando and then Ft. Lauderdale when her husband was transferred with Southern Bell. They had a wonderful life of boating, often to the Keys and the Bahamas with family and friends. She was an avid bridge player and Gator fan. When Lee retired, they returned to the area so they could be nearer to family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Gaff; her sisters-in-law, Jean Wirth and Ruth Hunnicutt; grandsons, James Gaff, III, and Robert Gaff (Angie); great-grandson, Robert Gaff, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. She was a very special person who will be greatly missed by all.
A private visitation for family and close friends will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 10:30am until 12:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4315 Main St., followed by graveside services at 12:30pm at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main St.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Harbor Chase Assisted Living for their special care of mother. They always treated her with compassion, love and humor. We would also like to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for their wonderful care and support.
