Nancy Keene Richard

December 8, 1930July 21, 2020

Nancy Mae (Keene) Richard, 89, passed on Tuesday July 21, 2020 at McGraw Hospice. Nancy was born on 8 Dec. 1930 in McMechen, WV to Richard and Ruth (Pyle) Keene, both predeceased. Enjoying 64 years of marriage to her deceased husband, Robert Richard, Nancy is survived by her son, John Hugh Marshall (Kim) of Mount Vernon, OH and daughter, Norma Kay Buchanan (Todd) of Jacksonville Beach, FL.; siblings Nelson Keene and Norma Greer; grandchildren Beau (Chrissie) Buchanan and B.J. Buchanan; nieces, Peggy Parise, Linda King, and Cindy Wood; nephews, Daniel Keene, David Knuth, Robert Custer, and Jeff Greer. Nancy possessed a “Keene” mind from childhood, having placed first in the West Virginia state geography contest in her youth. Nancy continued excelling in academic pursuits and graduated from Riverside-White Cross School of Nursing, Columbus, OH with her degree in 1951. Nancy was a life-long learner and became skilled as “computer mom.” Nancy and Bob enjoyed vacation trips to Las Vegas, the Bahamas and other venues where they enjoyed casinos. Nancy was always active, playing tennis, and later in life, walking and using exercise machines. A voracious reader, Nancy appreciated a good mystery and never missed a Jeopardy gameshow episode. Nancy worked as a nurse for over 45 years including time spent at Ohio Valley Hospital (Wheeling, WV), and she assisted Dr. J.B. Martin in St. Clairsville, OH). Later in her career, she worked as a nurse for the regional office of State Farm Insurance in Jacksonville, FL. She was aproud lifetime member of Riverside-White Cross Alumni Association. Family was of the utmost importance to her, with many Sundays spent with her husband Bob’s siblings in McMechen, West WV and her dear mother, Ruth, in Bellaire, OH. Nancy held high expectations for her children, and both completed multiple college degrees. A Celebration of Life and burial will be held at a later date with full Military Honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257.
