

Nobu, Yano Humphries, age 92, passed away peacefully at Mayo Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida on March 31, 2017. Her family, friends and many employees throughout 4 decades, knew her as a kind, sincere and career-minded person.
Mrs. Nobu Humphries Yano was born on January 7th, 1924 in Chiba Prefecture, Chiba Japan. First married to Charles S. Humphries, and raised her sons in Queens, New York City. Later, she remarried to Takatoshi Yano. Together they created their first restaurant on 72nd, St. and Central Park West, just across the famed Dakota Hotel in New York City. A few years later, they sold off and headed for Jacksonville, Florida and began what would be the first Japanese food business in Jacksonville called Shoguns. Then creating the chain over 41 years from Jacksonville to Sarasota, Florida.
She enjoyed traveling the world, ballroom dancing – winning multiple trophies in dance competitions. She is survived by her former husband, Takatoshi Yano; her sons, William A. Humphries of Jacksonville, Florida and Robert R. Humphries of Raleigh, North Carolina and grandson, Jordan Humphries and granddaughter Devin Humphries.
Her funeral service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Florida on Friday, April 7th, 2017 at 11:00 am. Viewing will be from 5-8pm on Thursday evening, April 6th, 2017.
