He was born in Argentina on November 20, 1943. Norbert graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Chicago, IL and attended University of Dayton for Civil Engineering. Norbert was a Regional Engineer for Marathon Oil until he decided to venture on his own. He had numerous businesses from construction of residential areas to entertainment centers. He was self-employed sharing the ups and down of ownership with his son from the age of seven. Working until the end with his son and wife in their family business.
He was a member of National Italian American Sport Halls of Fame, Goshen Jaycee Organization, and Knights of Columbus. He had a passion for fishing, watching bald eagles, razzing his grandchildren and racing them around on his Harley (electric scooter). He enjoyed a fierce game of Uno and cheating with his grandchildren. We now refer to any “card tricks” as pulling a Papa Bert.
He was survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda, and his children William (Cristina) Valentino, Jennifer (Matthew) Cox, and grandchildren Joey, Angela, Tony, Lindsay, and Evan. Other relatives are Mary and Richard Enstrom.
He was a straight shooter and said what he felt with passion. The lyrics from My Way by Frank Sinatra are fitting...
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of someone who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
He always picked himself back up and kept fighting until the end. He loved and worked fiercely.
He lived by the words of Calvin Coolidge, "Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
His wish was to have his ashes spread in Alaska with the bald eagles soaring high above. May he forever rest in peace.
