

Richard Alexander Ruwell was born on April 17, 1947 and died on January 15, 2023. Rich grew up in Manhasset, NY and graduated from the Hotchkiss School and the University of Pennsylvania (B.S. in Engineering). He then served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, discharged honorably in 1974 with the rank of 1st Lt. During his time with the Corps, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnam Campaign medal , Navy Achievement Medal, Rifle Marksmanship Badge; and Pistol Sharpshooter Badge.
After being discharged from the USMC, Rich worked for 23 years in the insurance industry (Allstate, AFLAC, and American International Group) and then spent 13 years doing professional recruiting with Snellling and Brainworks. In 2009, he ventured into a new career having worked for four years for ARC of Somerset County, New Jersey and received their 2011 Employee of the Year Award. He has experience volunteering for his local church in New Jersey, transporting three disabled women to St. David the King from 1993-2011.
Rich continued his work in healthcare when he moved to Florida in 2013. He also take pleasure volunteering at the Mayo Clinic until his health and COVID intervened.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 AT 10:00 am
St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 127 Stone Mason Way, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32081.
Following the Mass of Christian Burial will be a committal service at 2:00 pm
Jacksonville National Cemetery, Lane #1 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
