Ruthanne L. Evans, affectionately called “Nannie”, 67, of Jacksonville Beach passed away March 13, 2015. She was born at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville on September 12, 1947, the 5th of 6 children of Gordon and Annette (Smith) Mitchell.
Nannie spent her life in care of others and their children. Her greatest passion, outside of her family, was running an in-home daycare; providing a safe haven and loving environment for children of all ages. Her greatest impact was making a difference in the lives of the children and people she loved.
Nannie had several hobbies, but she was very passionate about crafting. She loved to crochet and especially enjoyed gifting afghans and baby blankets. Receiving a hand-made beautiful crochet blanket from Nannie was always a precious gift to treasure and appreciate.
She leaves her beloved husband Greg of 47 years; her sons Thomas Evans, Joseph Hanley and Christopher Vedvick (daughter-in-law Tiffany); and her niece Holly Scala. She also leaves behind sisters Toni Perkins (brother-in-law Billy) and Muriel Fralick. Ruth leaves behind 2 brothers Steve Silverheels and Ted Mitchell (sister-in-law Sally). Her legacy of love also includes her 3 grandchildren Lorelai, Evelyn and Archer; nephews Patrick Perkins, Kevin Perkins, Donny Wilson (Jane), Allan Evans, Larry Dale, Jonathan Evans; nieces Lisa Wilson-Fralick, Tina Bohl (Mike) Annette Evans, D.D. Jewell, Mona Davis; great nieces Christine Bohl-Bellajaro, Nikki Bohl, Celena Scala, Tina Lindt, Elizabeth Wilson-Nelson (David); great nephew Michael Wilson; cousin Joan Long (Jimmy).
Nannie is preceded in death by her daughter Angela Evans, her parents, her paternal and maternal grandparents, brother Thomas Scala, sister-in-law Katherine Silverheels, nieces Elizabeth Scala, Kelly Fraize, Julie Davis, and cousin Joe Smith.
Ruth also has a host of loving friends too numerous to list but to know her was to know unconditional love and kindness; included among them is her childhood friend, Linda Randall. Ruth’s family would also like to thank all her physicians & nurses for all their help while she was on her final earthly journey. She is now on a great journey with the Lord, joyous and pain free, no doubt continuing to love and watch over all those she has left behind.
A very special thank you goes out to her niece, Holly Scala, for being her devoted caregiver for many years and to her brother in law, Billy Perkins, for his devotion and support during her extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on March 28, 2015 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach with Fr. Kelly presiding. A celebration of Nannie’s life will be hosted by her family will immediately follow in the fellowship hall.
