

Simon J. Quintana, Sr., passed away suddenly on July 10, 2015 in Jacksonville Beach. Born in Rocky Ford, Colorado, he grew up in Pecos, New Mexico. He moved his family to Atlantic Beach more than 40years ago after being transferred to Naval Station Mayport. Upon retirement from the Navy as an E6, he attended UNF and had a distinguished career as a Mental Health Counselor in both Jacksonville and St. Augustine. He was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and once served as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rudy, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Fran Quintana; son, Simon J. Quintana, Jr.; daughter, Gina Torres (Ray); grandchildren, Brandon, Shannon and Gabriell Saavedra; great-grandson, Noah Allen; sisters, Flora Aragon, Ruby Quintana and Terry Romero; brothers, Henry, Phillip and Ralph Quintana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Mark Waters presiding. The family will receive friends at the church one hour to service time. Burial will take place in the Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to the America Kidney Fund or the American Cancer Society.
