Thomas William “Tom” Baine, V, 50, departed this life on 31 October 2021. He was born on Wednesday, September 1, 1971, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Thomas W. Baine, IV, and Linda Darlene (Turner) Baine. He lived in Jacksonville most of his life and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School Class of 1989. Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of North Florida with a major in history and a minor in political science. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Liberty University with a concentration in leadership, and he had a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from Northcentral University with a specialization in organizational leadership. Tom served in the Florida Air National Guard for 11 years attaining the rank of staff sergeant (SSgt), retiring as a Non-Commissioned Officer.
His love for friends and family led to a lifelong passion for Genealogy. This passion took him to some of the most remote cemeteries in the country with his wife by his side. Not only was he able to expand the list of ancestors but also it led to lifelong friendships of living decedents of those ancestors. Soon this love of family and history, and years of research, led him to write his book “Our Ancestors: A Personal History”.
Having earned his PhD, Tom was able to follow another great passion of his, education. Not only did he enjoy teaching but also mentoring his students. When he told his students that they could reach out to him at any time he meant it. He recognized the value in being a mentor and providing guidance to his students. Even after graduation many students would reach out to him to let him know how they were doing and to seek seeking his guidance.
As a father, Tom also encouraged his own children to read and to pursue their interests. He enjoyed reading to them and taking them to historical sites and parks.
Tom was an avid aviation enthusiast. He earned his private pilot’s license, and like most pilots, was quick to talk about all aspects of aviation and encouraged others to earn their private pilot’s license. He was able to combine his love of aviation and sense of community when he joined the Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 15 years, Ann-Marie (Thompson) Baine; his two children Amelia Elizabeth Baine, and Thomas William “TW” Baine, VI, his two brothers Dustin Alan Baine (Donna) and Darin Baine, and his niece, Lydia Kay Baine.
Tom was a devoted, loving husband and father. He was champion of conservative and Christian values. Tom's greatest joy was his family. He loved them dearly, and he will be forever in their hearts.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at North Jacksonville Baptist Church (8531 N Main St., Jacksonville, FL 32218) at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
