Long time Jacksonville Beach resident, Vera Grant Davis went to be with the Lord, on June 22, 2025 at the age of 95. Vera was born in Monticello, Florida and graduated from the Florida School of Nursing in 1947. She was married to Loyd E. Davis while still in Nursing school, which they had to keep secret until her graduation. After graduation they moved to Indiana so Loyd could complete his Mechanical Engineering degree.
They moved to Jacksonville Beach in 1950 and Vera continued her career in Nursing, working for Duval Medical Center, Dr. Gillespie and Children’s Medical Group. Later, Vera worked with Loyd in his engineering firm; Loyd E. Davis & Associates. She was mostly known as “Grant” until her husband Loyd affectionately named her “Skeets” after an old mad hen, which all the grandchildren adopted with glee.
Vera loved the Lord and was a member of Beach church for many years. Her other passions included her husband Loyd, golfing and fishing. She was a long-time member of the Jax Beach Ladies Golf association and retired from the game with two holes in one.
Vera is survived by her daughters, Marcia Davis Scott (Scotty) and Patricia Davis Ewell (Tom). She has two granddaughters, Ashley Kendrick (Michael) and Taylor Daniels (Brandon). Vera is survived by her brother, James A. Grant. She was blessed to have a beautiful, blended family, to include a host of great grandchildren, nieces & nephews and her sister in law, Vicki Grant.
She preceded in death by her parents, her brother Arthur Grant, her sister in law, Debra Grant and Son in Law, Herb Bunn.
