Victor Norman Raiser, my beloved soul mate, died suddenly Friday, November 6. His struggles are over and we are relieved that he is at peace at last. Our magical love affair lasted almost 56 years. We met in the summer of 1957 in Bloomingdale’s in Stamford, Connecticut where my dearest friend, Carolyn Gentry, and I spent the summer. Vic’s mother worked in the store and really picked me (Lynne) out for him. Edris became my second mother and Nancy Lange (Jonathan) and Isabella Draper (Bob), my sisters.
Vic blessed me with Geoffrey, Darby Delane, and her Rami Siahpoush to carry on his legacy of insight, curiosity and adventure. Geoff brought Kimberly and her Sheamus McNeely and Kristen McCutcheon (Miles) to us who then delighted us with baby Miles Geoffrey.
Vic was born May 6, 1937 in Manhattan, the day the Hindenburg blew up in nearby Lakehurst, NJ. We always said that explained his fiery spirit. He worked his way through Marietta College (Ohio), graduating with highest honors. His master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota led to a career in hospital and nursing home administration and 16 years as hospital consultant with the Florida Office of Licensure and Certification.
My deep appreciation to the Atlantic Beach Police and Rescue and UF Health Shands for their compassionate care and support every minute of that sad day. They were among the angels who helped us through this journey. Angels, you all know who you are.
Vic would love for you to remember him by helping someone in need. He would also be pleased to add to my father's scholarship at the University of North Florida: Ted Stephenson Baseball Scholarship or give to the National Parkinson's Foundation. We will celebrate his life at a later date.
Vic opened up the world to me and supported everything I ever did. He was a liberated 50's man who lived gracefully with my fierce ambition. Goodnight, sweet prince. I will love you forever.
