William Earl Carroll

Born on June 14, 1957, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Earl lived a life defined by service, loyalty, friendship, and adventure. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, veteran, and friend whose presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Earl proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1975 until his retirement in 1995 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. An Aviation Ordnanceman, he served aboard the USS Midway, USS Saratoga, USS John F. Kennedy, and USS Forrestal. Throughout his distinguished twenty-year naval career, Earl exemplified dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to his fellow shipmates and to the nation he loved.

Following his military service, Earl remained deeply connected to the veteran community. He was a proud member of Greater Beaches VFW Post 3270, American Legion Post 129 and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 290. He valued the camaraderie of his fellow veterans and was always willing to lend a helping hand or share a story with a friend.

On March 12, 1988, Earl married the love of his life, Terri Carroll. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to their daughter, Kaitlin E. Carroll, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Earl is survived by his beloved wife, Terri Carroll; his daughter, Kaitlin E. Carroll; and his brother, Terry Carroll. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, shipmates, and fellow riders who will deeply miss his friendship, humor, and generous spirit.

Beyond his dedication to family and country, Earl had a passion for motorcycles. He loved everything about riding—the freedom of the open road, the friendships formed along the way, and the adventures that came with every journey. Whether on two wheels or among family and friends Earl lived life fully and embraced every mile.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the service at Greater Beaches VFW Post 3270, 815 9th Avenue South, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250.

Earl’s legacy of service, strength, loyalty, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his pride in serving his country, and his love of the open road.
