January 10, 1941 – January 13, 2025
Wylene Jones Lyle, born to John Ellis and Margaret Jones on January 10, 1941, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 13, 2025.
Wylene was a woman who loved life deeply, and this love was reflected in her unwavering passion for family and friends. She grew up in Jacksonville, attended Robert E. Lee High School, and, in 1959, was crowned Miss Duval County, then went on to participate in the Miss Florida pageant. In 1960, Wylene married Richard “Clayton” Pickels, the father of her three daughters. Their marriage was filled with cherished moments and lasting memories. She was a devoted mother who, later in life, entered the workforce. In 1983, she married Richard “Donald” Lyle and eventually joined him at Lyle Painting and Decorating. Wylene went on to earn her painting contractor’s license and served as the Vice President of Lyle Painting and Decorating for many years. She was an active and influential member of the Lake Wales, Florida, community, where she was President of Main Street and the Save Our Lakes initiative. She proudly owned and operated the Wisteria Cottage in downtown Lake Wales for four years. Wylene loved to cook and entertain; she was also an avid fisherman who won many tournaments. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents and siblings: sisters Margie Davis and Patricia Jones, and brothers Scott Jones and Allan Jones.
Left to cherish her wonderful memories are her husband of 41 years, Richard Donald Lyle, and her three daughters: Cheryl Pickels and her daughters Brittany Berg and Harley Cardinal (husband Andrew); Polly Pickels (husband Robert Lannon) and her son Joshua Goldberg (wife Marissa), stepchildren Robert Lannon (wife Teresa), Timothy Lannon (Lisha), Nicole McDermott (husband Nigel); and Patricia Castleberg and her sons Chase and Blake Castleberg. Wylene also leaves behind her stepchildren: Darren Lyle (husband Vincent); Lisa Waters (husband Ed) and their daughters Valerie Plummer (husband Harris) and Rebecca Loftus (husband Colton); Jennifer Ohlsen (husband Michael), her stepdaughter Kirstin Stork (husband Ben), and their son Jacob Ohlsen; and 8 beloved great-grandchildren.
Wylene is also survived by her loving siblings: brother Laverne Jones (wife Joyce), sister Jennifer Suber (husband Danny), brother Wayne Jones (wife Brenda), and brother Kenneth Jones (passed on January 15, 2025).
Wylene's legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew her. She leaves behind a family who adored her, friends who cherished her, and a community that was enriched by her presence. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched. Wylene's vibrant spirit and unwavering love will continue to inspire and guide us. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of her life will be held on May 17, 2025, at 1:30 pm, at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, FL. The family kindly requests that donations in Wylene’s memory be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
