She was born to the late Robert and Ada Brownlee, December 12, 1923, in Florida.
Ada married Marion Ballard in 1967, and they lived together in Plant City, then later relocated to Jacksonville.
Known by her family as “Mama Ada,” she was a true southern belle; enjoyed all the pretty things in life from shopping to scenery. As an avid traveler, she traveled all 50 states and several countries with her church for missionary work and on vacation with her husband. She even made a jacket with patches from all the places she visited! She was known for her kind heart, fun spirit, and creativity. She made everyone around her feel special, appreciated, and loved unconditionally. She enjoyed sewing and making clothing, creating beautiful wedding cakes, singing, jigsaw puzzles, and John Wayne westerns.
Ada last lived in her home in Jacksonville with her daughter Carol, grandson Kelly, and his wife, Kerri. As her final wish was to remain in her home, her grandson Kelly relocated to Jacksonville 12 years ago to ensure she received the best in-home care with help from health services, and later his wife Kerri.
Ada is survived by two children: Carol Keene, of Jacksonville; and Renus Knowles, of Plant City. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Lou Ellen Martin, of Jacksonville; a granddaughter and grandson. She is also survived by six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Ada will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
