Born in Miami, Fla., Alan graduated from Coral Park High School and received an AA degree from Tallahassee Community College. Alan was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army (Regular Army) achieving the rank of Sargent as did his father in World War II. Alan served in Korea for several years during the Vietnam conflict as a communications specialist.
Alan, who recently retired, spent his career working in the information technology industry. He enjoyed landscaping and home maintenance, carpentry and high-level personal computing. He especially loved spending time at the beach. He had a large circle of close friends drawn from several organizations to which he was dedicated.
Alan was the son of David Cypress (who died in 1966) and Beulah Cypress ( who died in 2007). He is survived by his sister, Marcia Cypress of St. Petersburg, Fla., his brother Harold Cypress (and wife Helen) of Boynton Beach, Fla., niece Alicia Cypress of Bethesda, Md., and nephew David Lando of Largo, Fla.
A memorial was held for family and friends on October 8, 2021. Interment will take place at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, with military honors, at a later date, for the family.
