
Amelia Lucas Kirkland Whitsett, age 86, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Gainesville, FL. Amelia was born November 24, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida to Horace Kerr and Minnie Inez Lucas. Amelia was a homemaker and later went to work for 26 years for the Army Corps of Engineers as a draftsman. Amelia was a member of the West Jax Advent Christian Church and the Orange Park Garden Club. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and baby clothing and playing many long hours of Hand and Foot Card game. She is preceded in death by her two husbands William Franklin Kirkland and Harry E. Whitsett, her parents, two brothers, and one sister. Survivors include her daughter Alyce Jean Young; three sons Donn Franklin Kirkland (Bootsie), David Whitsett (Gina), and Kenneth Whitsett (Lollie); six grandchildren Donny, Deanna, Danny, Regina, Josh, and Jacob; five great grandchildren Alyson, Blake, Colt, Adam, and Martina. Family will receive friend and family 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, July 13, 2012 at West Jax Advent Christian Church, 8376 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday July 14, 2012 at West Jax Advent Christian Church, 8376 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221. Memorial contributions may be made in Amelia’s honor to Haven Hospice, 1801 Wells Road, Orange Park, FL 32073.
