Ann Lyon Mangels, 93, of St. Augustine, died July 19, 2015. Graveside service is 11 am Friday at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Jacksonville. She was born Sept. 16, 1921, to Charles Hugh Lyon and Anna Maria Flachmeier Lyon, in Fisk, Mo., and grew up in Livingston, Ala. She served her country during World War II as a Yeoman, Second Class, in the US Naval Reserve WAVES. She earned her master's degree in English from Auburn University and taught in elementary and secondary schools in Columbus, Ga., and Jacksonville. A loving wife and devoted mother, she was married for 63 years to John Mangels, Jr., who died in 2012. She is survived by daughter Reed Mangels Alper (Arnold), sons John (Andrea) and Bob (Lynnda), granddaughters Sarah, Leah and Liliana, and step-grandsons Zac and Rane. She was a longtime member of Jacksonville's Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
