Barbara Lavene Young

Barbara Lavene Young, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2020. She was a life long resident of Jacksonville, FL. Barbara passed away peacefully in her home in the presence of her loving family and the comfort of the Vitas Hospice Team.

Barbara was loved by everyone whom had the privilege to be a part of her life. She provided child care for most of her nieces and nephews and quite a few of the neighborhood children in her many years on Loves Drive. She was a member of Shindler Drive Baptist Church. Her passion and gift was taking care of others. Even in her final days she was worried about making sure that her children and grandchildren would know the extent of her love for them. She fought a good fight and never gave up until Jesus called her home.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, James Reavis Young, Jr., as well as her mother Thelma Austin and father Elzie Austin, sister Jeanine Dyes, and four brothers Sonny, Buddy, Jimmy, and Gene Austin. She is survived by her two daughters Barbara (Lyn) Mitchell (Ricky) and Jamie Young (Todd Sea). Her surviving siblings are Boonie Tatham (Lee), Betty Geer, and Buck Austin (Jean). Barbara was also blessed with five grandchildren Britany Delgross, Ricki Lyn Mitchell, Christopher Sea (Buddy), James Sea, and Arabella Sea as well as one great grandchild David (Brett) Leonard. We would like to thank all of our friends, family, and Hospice staff for supporting us in our mothers passing.

Unfortunately due to COVID 19 regulations it is with our deepest regret that our mother will not be given the services that she wanted with her family and friends present. At this time for we are only permitted to have a private family graveside service of 10 people. Pastor Jonathan Reavis of Shindler Drive Baptist Church will be officiating. We do apologize and ask that you send flowers. Mama really loves flowers. She will be laid to rest on Friday, April 24, 2020 beside her husband at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. We will have a Celebration of Life Ceremony at a later date so that we can all meet together and share our love for Barbara and give her the honor that she deserves.
