Benny O. Bessent, age 82, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Benny was born on August 1, 1941 in Jacksonville, Florida to Howell Robert Bessent and Jimmy Bartly. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, class of 1960, and also attended Jacksonville University. Benny also served in the United States Army. He was married to Mary Ann Ingle on January 10, 1970. Benny worked as a plumber and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 234, and worked with Tompkins Beckwith and W.W. Gay. During his spare time Benny enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku.
Benny was the youngest of ten children, and is preceded in death by eight of his siblings as well as his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Bessent; one son, Brian Bessent; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bessent Tatum; one son-in-law, Tony Tatum; granddaughter, Mary Katherine Bessent; grandson, Zachary Tatum; brother, George Bessent; and sister, Shirley Turner.
A graveside service for Benny will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
