Bertha Mae Lewis, 83, of Jacksonville Florida, went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2018. Bertha was born in Quinlan, Texas on November 12, 1934. She spent some time growing up in the Bolles home orphanage in Quinlan, Texas. Bertha was a strong member of her family and church. She loved her family and her church family more than anything and always loved to have them around. Bertha was the glue that held the family together. She is known to be a “hoot” because she loved to laugh and joke. Her smile could warm even the meanest of hearts. She had that way about her. She had friends of all kinds and never knew a stranger. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Lonzo Lewis, whom she married on January 18, 1952. Raymond was her soul mate. They had a strong love most only dream of. She leaves behind her 5 children, Bridget Cheesman (Bill), Thomas Lewis, Vernon Lewis, Terry Lewis and Natalie Ploof (Albert) and her many grand and great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her son, Freddie Lewis. Bertha was loved by all. She will forever be in our hearts. Special thanks to the staff of Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville who had so much compassion for Bertha and her family.
“God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered, ‘Come to Me.’”
“You can only have one Mother, Patient, Kind, and True, No other friend in the world will be the same as you.”
