

Betty (Jane) Blount Smith,84, passed away July 6, 2014. She was born October 4, 1929 and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. She received her Bachelors degree from Florida State University in Journalism. Mrs. Smith was a gifted teacher, writer, pianist and artist. Her greatest passion was always her husband, children and grandchildren. She taught school privately and in the Duval county public school system for over 35 years. Her love for teaching was also exemplified in teaching Sunday School and church camps for children of all ages. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority where she was extremely active for years. She loved the Lord and it was evident in everything she did for others. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Meadie Wells Blount & Lula Blackwell Blount; brother, John Oliver Blount; sister, Marjorie Blount Martin; and son, Kenneth Steele Smith.
Betty is survived by her husband, James (Jim K) Smith; daughter, Christina Smith Key (Michael J. Key Sr.); daughter, Luann Smith Eiginger (Mark A. Eiginger) and daughter-in-law, Gwen Pullen Smith; grandchildren, Kristen K. Beach, Rachael L. Key, Michael J. Key Jr., Brittany L. Key, Phillip J. Clayton, Kyle M. Eiginger, Aaron S. Eiginger, Kara M. Eiginger, Christina S. Furman, Tiffany A. Smith & Dylan S. Smith.
