

Blondell Miller Tompkins, 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4th, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 3, 1915 and was a life-long resident of Florida. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a wonderful teacher, a gifted cook, and a dedicated servant of her Lord, Jesus Christ. A gentle and soft spoken woman, Blondell had a strong and determined spirit with an appreciation for education. She obtained her college degree at Jacksonville University in 1963 while teaching school and raising her four children. She completed her 33 year teaching career in Duval County in 1979. Blondell was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Alvah, and her son, Al. She is survived by her sons, John (Lovelace) Tompkins and Jim (Diane) Tompkins; her daughter, Patricia (Mike) Lepianka; daughter-in-law, Lavinna Tompkins; her grandchildren, Alison (John) Gerst, Kathryn (Jason) Edgecombe, Jason (Jill) Tompkins, James Tompkins, Carrie (Rick) Blanton, and Brandon Lepianka; and her great- grandchildren, James, Miller and Madelyn Edgecombe, Harper Tompkins, and Ben Gerst. Blondell enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, sewing and cooking, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She always will be remembered for her wonderful cakes and sweet tea. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 10:30am at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, with a reception immediately following at West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church 8376 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221.Memorial donations may be made to West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church.
