Brett Emmett Roueche Jr., 72, of Jacksonville, FL, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 5:38 a.m., surrounded by his family. He was born November 24, 1953, in Miami Beach, FL, to Brett Emmett Roueche Sr. and Ann Mitchell Roueche. The son of a U.S. Marine Corps fighter pilot, he grew up living in Hawaii; Slidell, LA; and Pensacola, FL, before graduating from Escambia High School and attending the University of West Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He married Jan Foster on February 6, 1983, and over the next 20 years his quiver was filled with 10 children. He worked in sales for several years, then transitioned to IT, where he spent almost 20 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield fixing PCs and helping people. His life was anchored in his faith in God; he trusted Jesus as his Savior at age 27 and was a faithful, serving member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and later Berean Baptist Church (now Immanuel Baptist Church) for the rest of his life. He wanted everyone to meet and know the Savior who had changed his life.
Brett had an engaging and outgoing personality with a dry, witty sense of humor, and he could tease with the best of them. He could talk to anyone, especially if the topic was the Bible (King James Version only, please!), conspiracy theories, sports (Florida Gators football and basketball, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and golf), or his favorite hobby—music. His passion for music had many outlets—he enjoyed listening to classical music (Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 was his favorite) and recordings of his favorite hymns, he produced and even composed his own music, and above all he was an avid and gifted guitar player. He also enjoyed classic movies and TV shows, especially Star Trek (the William Shatner version only), and spending time with his schnauzers, Sampson, Wesley, and Fritz. If he was outdoors, he wanted to be putting in a good day’s work, hiking the mountains, or playing a round of golf. When he treated himself, it was sushi, plain yellow cake with chocolate icing, or chocolate milkshakes. A can of Coca-Cola was not a treat, however—it was an essential part of every meal.
Even with his many hobbies and interests, he loved and always made time for his wife and kids. He had a special nickname for each of them—Zircon, Toon, To the Bud, Knee Guy, Boon, Moo, Zooba, Goose, Boo, Poodie, and Berkus—that only he knew where they came from. He provided for his family faithfully and was always ready and willing to help and support them.
Brett is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jan (Foster) Roueche; his children, Sarah Roueche, Jonathan (Erin) Roueche, David (Jeribeth) Roueche, Daniel Roueche, Rebecca (Josh) Lester, Abigail (Amos) Medford, Augusta (Marcus) Storey, Stephen Roueche, Jenny (Jonathan) Replogle, and Eric (Evelyn) Roueche; his grandchildren, Leila, Ethan, Juliet, Mnason, Callan, Clara, Sebastian, Jackson, Elliot, and Nicholas; his sister, Augusta Randolph Cook; his niece Ashley Rainey; and his nephews Bradford Rainey and Collin Cook.
Brett was preceded in death by Brett Emmett Roueche Sr. (father), Ann Mitchell Roueche (mother), Arthur Bradford Roueche (brother), and Georgia Ann Rainey (sister).
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 12046 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, with the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL.
