He was born on March 31, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida to Mary Dolores and Ronald Altman. Browne was raised in Jacksonville and the Beaches. He graduated from Fletcher High School in 1961 and attended college at Florida State Community College and Jacksonville University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged.
Browne married Nancy in 1969 and during their 55 years of marriage lived at the Beaches, in Arlington and on Heckscher Drive. One of Browne's dreams was to learn how to sail. That dream was fulfilled and Browne and Nancy spent time together sailing the river, ICW and the Caribbean with their beloved dogs. After retirement, they would sail away during the winter months and share many memorable adventures. He shared his time and expertise with fellow boaters by going to the local transit dock and he chauffeured boaters to shops and the airport. Browne's hobbies included woodworking and target shooting. He enjoyed the reunions and quarterly luncheons with his fellow Fletcher H.S. graduates. He also attended Shadco and NCA meetings and was a long time member of the Heckscher Drive Community Club.
Most of Browne's career centered on the automobile industry. He worked as a mechanic, service writer and field technical/service training specialist. He always enjoyed what he was doing.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers James and Ronald.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Jeffrey Paul Altman; daughter, Elizabeth Laycock; grand and great children and nieces and nephews.
Browne's Memorial Service will be held at St. George Episcopal Church on Fort George Island, 10560 Fort George Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32226, on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
