April 12, 1965 – June 18, 2025
Bruce Wayne Gibbs Jr., 60, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, after a courageous 2.5-year battle with colon cancer. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving wife of 32 years, Shannon Gibbs, and their two children, Megan and Logan.
Born on April 12, 1965, Bruce was a hardworking and kind-hearted man who dedicated his life to his family, friends, and a fulfilling career in underground utilities. He worked with United Bros. for 15 years before continuing his career with Jax Utilities, where he proudly served for another 20 years.
Outside of work, Bruce found joy in the simple things. He was known for hosting legendary cookouts at his home, always eager to feed and gather the people he loved most. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, grilling, tinkering in the yard, and riding his tractor — a place where he found both peace and purpose.
Bruce was truly loved by everyone who met him. He was a man who embraced life in jeans, t-shirts, and boots, had a deep love for old country and rock ‘n’ roll music, and valued time spent with family above all. Christmas was his favorite holiday, not for the presents, but for the precious moments surrounded by those he held dearest.
Among his most cherished possessions were his gun collection and his beloved Ford F-350, but nothing compared to the love he had for his wife and children.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Wayne Gibbs Sr., and his sister, Mary Katherine Tennant.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Shannon Gibbs; daughter, Megan Gibbs; son, Logan Gibbs; mother, Roberta Gibbs; sister, Kelli Taylor (Bill Taylor); mother and father-in-law, Linda and Lee McElroy; brothers-in-law, Steve Bloodworth and Anthony Bloodworth; and nieces and nephews: Corey Garrett, Hailey Bloodworth, Abigail Wainwright, Makenzie Bloodworth, and Jack Dixon.
Bruce leaves behind a legacy of hard work, unwavering love, and warm memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Bruce by spending time with loved ones, enjoying a good cookout, or simply taking a moment to appreciate life in a pair of well-worn boots.
