

Catherine Hodge Metts, 87, of Callahan, FL, passed away on March 9th surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children Don Metts, her son Donnie Metts, and grandsons Jason Metts and Steven Pritchett. She is survived by her children Eddie (Sheri) Metts, Judy (Jim) Fox, Bobby Metts, her sister Thelma Sarver, and a large, loving family that includes ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Catherine was born on January 5th, 1938. One of nine children, she grew up in Jesup, Georgia where she was a forward on the varsity basketball team, a majorette in the marching band, and occasionally sang gospel music on the radio. A restaurant entrepreneur later in life, she operated Red Rooster and Cathy’s Family Style Restaurant in Jacksonville, serving customers good southern cooking with a contagious smile and offering second helpings to anyone that asked for it. She was a devoted Christian with an enormous heart that gave unconditional love to all. Taking care of others was her passion and her purpose, and she did so well into her final years. She will be sorely missed by all of the lives that she touched.
Catherine will be laid to rest at Westside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL on March 14th at 10 a.m.
