Cholita Rimas, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away on January 3, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 82, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on November 21, 1942, in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines, Cholita’s life was a remarkable journey filled with love, laughter, and joy.
After college, Cholita embarked on a new adventure, moving to the United States. It was in this new chapter of her life that she met her soulmate, Reynaldo Rimas. They married on November 15, 1969, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned over five decades.
Spending more than 25 years in the food industry, Cholita’s career was dedicated to serving others and left a lasting impact. She retired in 2005 from the Mayo Clinic of Jacksonville, where her colleagues admired her hard work and kindness.
Cholita’s family was her greatest pride. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Reynaldo; her beloved daughter, Rayla (Jason); and her treasured grandchildren, Malia and Miles, who brought light and happiness into her life. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Amy, Baybee (Jun), and Bunso, as well as her brothers, Nonoy, Jonny (Flory), and Ony; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Beyond her professional and family life, Cholita was a woman of many passions. She had a deep love for cooking and baking, always ensuring everyone around her was well fed and cared for. Her adventurous spirit fueled her passion for travel, and she cherished the many trips she took with family and friends. A talented and enthusiastic Mahjong player, she spent countless joyful hours bonding with loved ones over the game she adored.
Despite the challenges of Alzheimer’s, Cholita faced her journey with remarkable grace and resilience. Known for her infectious laugh, kind heart, and deep faith, Cholita touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a unique gift for spreading love and creating connections, whether through her warm hospitality or genuine care for others.
Cholita lived a life filled with gratitude and optimism, always finding beauty in the simple joys of everyday moments. Her love of family, sense of humor, and unwavering strength leave an enduring legacy that will be carried on by all who loved her.
Rest peacefully, Cholita. Your light will shine eternally in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you.
A visitation for Cholita will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A prayer service will occur Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church,10472 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32246. Immediately following mass, a committal service will occur at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
