Claude Embry Edwards was born on March 9, 1918 in his home in Gretna, Florida. He passed away at age 95 on October 7, 2013 in his home in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by his family. He was the last child of nine children to pass. Embry served in the United States Marine Corps from 1936-1945, where he served on Iwo Jima in World War II and received a purple heart for his service, along with several other medals. After his service in the military he went to Florida State University and graduated in the first Co-ed class with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. He worked as a journalist for the Gatson County Times for a short time. After that he became an electrician in Jacksonville, Florida and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 72 years. He attended church and sang in the choir at Evangel Temple Assembly of God for many years. Embry leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Marjorie, along with 5 children. Donna Rowand (Tom Rowand), Sina Cook(Michael Cook), Lora Ransom(Robert Ransom), Drew Edwards(Janarae Edwards) and Allene Jackson (Kurt Jackson). He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. We would like to acknowledge Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for the outstanding care they provided for Embry in his last days and also Jane Tabor, a dear friend of the family. Visitation will take place on October 9, 2013 from 6pm- 8pm at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32205. The Funeral Service will take place on October 10, 2013 at 11am at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, 5755 Ramona Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32205.
