She was the fifth of eight siblings, two of whom survive her: Shirley Williams Wilson and Orbin Williams, both of Jacksonville. As a young woman, Claudia worked as an elevator operator in downtown Jacksonville. In the early 1960s, Claudia’s sister, Leona, introduced her to a charming, gentle man who she knew from work and thought might be a good match for sister Claudia. That man was Charlie Mullennix, the love of her life, and they married in 1962. They each brought two sons to the blended family, Chuck Mullennix (d. 2019), Steve Mullennix of Jacksonville, Rex Earls of Jacksonville and Darrell Earls (d. 2020).
Claudia had a passion throughout her life of cooking for her family, lively church services and working in her gardens. She also loved sharing photos of her kids and grandkids, reading and pretty shoes. She and Charlie enjoyed traveling locally with family or friends to Michigan, the mountains of Tennessee, the Carolinas, Georgia and throughout Florida. Her beloved Charlie passed away in 2002. She is survived by Steve (and Justina), Rex (and Emma Alford) and their only son together, David Mullennix of Fleming Island, FL (and Cindy), as well as three grandchildren: Isreal (and Dio) Earls of Naples, FL, Blake (and Brianna) Mullennix of Arlington, VA and Adam Mullennix of Fleming Island, FL. A sassy, no-nonsense, southern gal with a beautiful smile, Claudia will be dearly missed by her family. But they take solace in the certainty that she and Charlie are enjoying a Heavenly root beer float together again!
The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:30 p.m. before the 2:30 p.m. funeral service at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home (7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL), officiated by Pastor Dale Hile of Westside International Church of God. A family interment will follow at Sellers Cemetery on Halsema Street.
