Curtis was born December 28, 1931, to Frank and Julia Mae Ganey, in Mayo, Florida. He was the 6th of seven siblings. He married the love of his life, Joan Gary Ganey in September 1957, and was blessed with five children, thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, “all geniuses” as he would say. He proudly served in the U.S . Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. He graduated from Baptist Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas in 1963, and served as the pastor of Temple Gate Baptist Church. In addition to his unwavering service to his Lord, he also worked for the U.S. Veterans Administration. He lived his life fully with a servant’s heart, a humble spirit, giving thanks in everything and was surely welcomed by his Lord proclaiming, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
