Dan was educated at Leslie Elementary School and Rock Hill High School. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 and served four honorable years aboard the U.S.S. Wasp. He completed his service in 1958 with the U.S. Navy and was hired by Hobart Food Equipment Services in Jacksonville, Florida. Dan went on to training for Hobart in Troy, Ohio and retired after 47 years of committed service to grocery stores across Florida and South Georgia.
Dan married Nancy Goodson, the love of his life, on March 28th, 1958, however; they knew each other most of their lives in Rock Hill, South Carolina. They attended several of the same schools and churches and eventually fell in love after he returned home from his service in the Navy.
After starting a family in Jacksonville, Dan and Nancy moved to their dream home on Little Orange Lake in Hawthorne, Florida. They enjoyed the lake, fishing, and gardening for 17 years before moving back to Jacksonville, Florida. Upon retirement, Dan and Nancy made numerous trips to include an Alaskan Cruise, trips to visit family in Tennessee, and took several tour bus trips to enjoy God’s creations and mother nature across the United States.
His passion was his family. He loved fishing, antique cars, gardening, watching the Atlanta Braves, and attending his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a Godly man and was actively involved in their church where he was a member of the Senior Group at Mill Cove Church. He loved his church members and was especially fond of taking trips to include a trip he talked about often to the Cumberland Islands.
In February 2025, Dan and Nancy moved into the Fountains at Mill Cove where they enjoyed the friends, fellowship, and activities the staff provided. Dan loved each one of their friends, the staff, and caregivers who took such loving care of him.
