

A long-time resident of Jacksonville and retired Fire Fighter of thirty plus years of service answered his final alarm this past Saturday 13 August 2016. He had a peaceful passing at the age of 82 after a long illness and was a devoted Christian man to our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Dennis was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Helen of fifty-nine years.
He is survived by his Helen along with three children and five grandchildren as well as a loving brother and sister. He was a sincere and caring man in all that he did and with those that he touched. He will be missed by all that loved and knew him.
A native of Easley, SC he started working in a cotton mill at a young age. Knowing he wanted more he enlisted in the US Navy where he spent ten plus years and in that is where he met the love of his life here in Jacksonville. After which his devoted service to the Fire Department where he stayed until his retirement after many years.
He was a loving father and grandfather who had a tireless concern for them all. They were one of his greatest joys! He had a love of all things outdoors and an even greater love of fishing. He was an avid carver toward the end of his journey.
A funeral service will be held to wish him a fond farewell at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11:00am with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will take place in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
