Dr. Devegowda Gopal, D.V.M., M.S., Ph.D., 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2017. He was born December 11, 1939 to Devegowda and Thimamma Devegowda in Bangalore, India. Devegowda helped his father raise cattle in the country. He was the first in his family to attend college and worked as a veterinarian caring for cows, horses and numerous family pets. Devegowda opened the Gopal Animal Hospital in Jacksonville in 1980 in which his wife helped him with house calls he made in the middle of the night; she was always by his side and the two had a strong work ethic. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Geetha, one son Dr. Vikram Gopal and his wife Dr. Suma Gopal, his granddaughters Maya and Asha, one daughter Dr. Lakshmi Gopal and her husband Dr. Ned Clark, granddaughter Leela, grandson Krishna, his brother’s family Mr. and Mrs. Ramanujam Devegowda and their daughter Hamsa. Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home is serving the family. A memorial service for Dr. Gopal will be held at a later date.
