Donald Looney went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 11, 2018 with his family and friends by his side, after suffering a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer; he was 69. He will be sorely missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
Donald was born in Biloxi, Mississippi to Bobby Gene Looney and Mary (Bowles) Looney on June 19th, 1948. He grew up in the state of Florida and called Jacksonville his home. Over the years Don spent his time as a truck driver, where he drove for National Freight, Owens Corning, CTI and Werner. Don had an unconditional love for children, family and life. He would share his knowledge of things not to do in life and his wisdom of his life experiences. He was our rock, our mentor, the glue that held all of us together. Because of him there is a strong family bond that can not ever be broken.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Looney and mother & step-father, Mary (Looney) Atkins and Ray Atkins. He leaves behind his sister, Brenda (Susan) Lee Looney; niece, Sonne Lee; brother, Ted Looney; daughter Carolyn (Davor) Malbasic with grandchildren, Darlene (the apple of his eye), Natalya, Jaiden & Elyssia; son, John (Kaylle) Hohl with grandchildren, Kelton, Falon, Little John and Lyric; son, Ryan (Jenny) Hohl with grandchildren, Emily & Erica; daughter, Melisha (Tim) Andrix with grandchildren, Michael, Jr., Destiny and Bobbi Jo; son, Keith (Sherry) Looney; cousins, Charles (Karen) Looney, Kathleen Geanes and many more. He will be lovingly missed by his dearest, closest friend, Susan Mason and his dear friends, Linda Hooper, Mark & Cheri Villa, Zdravko & Brankica Malbasic & family, Darrell & Dawn Carr, Clint Morrison, Tonya & Chuck Tillman and daughter, Kayla. He was a friend, mentor and father figure to Crystal & Andrei Dickerson, and their children, Candence Kyra & Andrei, Jr., Kim & Jen Boddie and Katrina Batten.
He has a lot of family, extended family and friends, way beyond count, whose lives he affected, guided and changed. Don was a strong man with a big heart, who was always there for anyone in need. Words can not express the impact of his departure from our lives that will be felt by so many of us. Rest in peace my father, my papa, my brother, my friend. We all love and miss you.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home.
