

Dorothy L. Sparks (Granny), 96, peacefully took residence in her heavenly mansion on March 29, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Warren, Ohio on January 17, 1914, she moved to Florida at the age of 10. She was a devoted wife and mother. She worked out of her home as a seamstress until the age of 93. Granny’s Christian faith was exemplary and a great source of inspiration. She was a member of Regency Baptist Temple for over 52 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher to the 2-3 year olds and took an active part in the Super Senior Ministry, where she was world renowned for her Mandarin Orange Cake. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, playing cards and until recently she did a daily crossword puzzle.
Granny was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, James Thomas Sparks, her youngest son, George Wimberly, grandson, Smokey Garrard, great grandson, Tyler Adams, great granddaughter, Isabella Rutherford, her brother, Emory Turner and sister, Hazel Aton. Survivors include her six, loving children, daughter Betty Adams, daughter, Ethel Leverock and her husband Irvin, daughter, Shirley Garrard and her husband Sam, son, Terry Wimberly and his wife, Linda, daughter Ramona Eastwood and her husband, Gerry, daughter Dorothy Rutherford and her husband Roy, 24 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 2 at 10am at Regency Baptist Temple, 1130 Rogero Road. It will be followed by a graveside service at Chapel Hills Memory Garden, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North. The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 1 from 6-8:30pm at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home at Chapel Hills Memory Garden, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North.
