

Edna Carter, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at the age of 87. She was surrounded by her loving family, who will forever cherish the legacy she leaves behind.
Born on January 8, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri, Edna shared her birthday with Elvis Presley, who was born two years earlier. She was later raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where she met her husband, William “Willie” Carter. Married for 61 years, they built a family together and raised four children. She also had a rewarding career as a special education assistant teacher at Wesconnett Elementary School.
Edna was known for her sense of humor, quick wit, constant smile, and positive attitude. She welcomed everyone she met with warmth and kindness, making all feel at home in her presence. A devoted Elvis fan, she loved spending time with her family and, in her later years, found great joy in traveling. Her warmth and positivity were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Sapp and John “Mike” Carter, and daughter-in-law, Kim; her granddaughter, Saralyn Grass, and grandson-in-law, Gabe; and her great-granddaughter, Cheyanne Imani-Grass, and great-grandson-in-law, Zion; and her brother, Ray Permenter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Carter; her sons, Gary Carter and William “Peanut” Carter, Jr.; her son-in-law, Ronnie Sapp; her parents, Jim and Lois Norris; and her brothers, Bruce Norris, Billy Permenter, and Wesley Permenter.
A viewing and visitation will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., both at Hardage-Giddens Riverside on Normandy Boulevard. The funeral will be followed by a graveside burial at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, located directly across the street and within a short walking distance of the funeral home. Refreshments will be provided afterward at Hardage-Giddens.
Edna Carter will be deeply missed, but her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
