Edna Louise was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 3, 1927 to the late John Edward and Minnie Pearl Sands Whaley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Goodman Shaw, Sr, and later husbands Lee James Mitchell and A.Z. Davis and brothers John Whaley, Jr and James Whaley, Sr. Survivors include her sisters Margaret (Margie) Hoines and family of Langford, S.D. and Amanda Whaley and husband Vasilios Simeonidis of Jacksonville, FL, and family. Her children, Pamela Dekle of Jacksonville, FL, Robert Shaw, Jr and wife Vikki, of Middleburg, FL, Nancy Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Cindy Rounds and husband Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL, Karen Flowers and husband John of Hampstead, N.C., and much loved children from other marriage, including Jim Mitchell and wife Agnes of Carrollton, GA, Jeannie Cornish of Charleston, S.C., and Leanne Johnson and husband Ricky of Lake Park, GA. Twenty -four grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
After her retirement from Southern Bell, she moved to North Carolina where she loved her new home state and serving the community. Edna was a long time member of Providence Baptist Church in Holly Ridge, where she sang in the choir. This could not have been possible without her attending the beginnings of Murray Hill Baptist Church in April of 1936. Throughout her time at Murray Hill, she sang in the choir and worked in the preschool Sunday School, age 4. She loved her beginning church and whenever she was in Jacksonville, she always attended. She was a lifelong union member of CWA Local 3106, Jacksonville, FL, where she loved her union brothers and sisters.
