

Edward Laverne Pickett Sr., 84, of Hilliard, FL passed away March 20, 2017 at his home in Kings Ferry surrounded by family and loved ones. Born July 7, 1932, a native of Jacksonville, FL. He was Co-owner of P&H Hydraulic Service, Inc. and served in the National Guard. He attended the Free Methodist and First Alliance Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents Christopher Earl and Velma Chrystal Pickett, two sisters Geraldine Walker, Betty Gilmer and a still-born son. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Lena Hanner Pickett, two daughters Becky (Ronnie) Purdy, Glenda Crosby, one son Edward “Eddie” Pickett Jr., eight grandchildren Carmen Sarratt, Michelle Purdy, April Brandies, Emily (Jason) Oliver, Ashley (Mark) Rageth, Samantha (Mark) Owenby, Dacey (Miranda) Pickett, Kent Pickett, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, several great-step grandchildren, one sister Shirley Lueders, six brothers Earl (Marie) Pickett, J.T. Pickett, Billy (Pat) Pickett, Harold (Evelena) Pickett, Merle Pickett, Marion Pickett and many nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a viewing for friends on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 6-8pm at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Chapel, 729 S. Edgewood Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11am at the Edgewood Chapel with interment at West View (Pickett) Cemetery, 5355 Pickettville Road, Jacksonville, FL 32254. Pastor Ted Heglund officiating. Pallbearers are Bruce Thompson, Rick Pickett, Roger Pickett, Donnie Long, Dave Green and Vince Blake. Honorary pallbearers are Robbie Pickett and Johnny Prescott.
