

Born to Eddie and Lillie Mae Rhoden in Baker County, Florida, he spent his early life in Jacksonville, Florida. After graduating high school, he went on to work for the Jacksonville Electric Authority for 30 years until his retirement. A devout Christian, he loved the Lord, his wife, his family, and his dog, Cowboy.
He enjoyed woodcarving, gardening, and reading his Bible. He was one of the founding members of the Marietta Church of Christ and devoted his life to spreading the word of God.
Elijah is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Virginia Rhoden; his son, Steven Rhoden (wife, Loretta); his daughter, Kim Hamilton (husband, Jon); son-in-law, Robert Burns; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Elijah is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Lillie Mae Rhoden; his brothers, Jamie, Ray, and Billy; his sisters, Lois and Alice; and his beloved daughter, Laurie Mae Burns.
A visitation will be held on February 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lakeshore Church of Christ, located at 1796 Old Middleburg Rd N, Jacksonville, FL 32210. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 12:00 pm. Immediately following the funeral service, the committal service will take place at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at Riverside Event Pavilion, 1373 Memorial Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on the same day.
