Tony was born in San Carlos City, Province of Pangasinan, Philippines on
March 28, 1927 to Benigno de Guzman and Placida Banez de Guzman. Tony
entered the United States Navy in March 1946, became a naturalized citizen
in May 1950 and proudly continued to serve until his retirement in September
1970 as an SD1.
After retirement, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Jones College,
Jacksonville, Fl. His favorite and final place of employment was with the
golf club at NAS Mayport that ended in 2003.
He was a proud member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #455. Some of
Tony's favorite activities were fishing, golfing, bowling. His passion for
all sports leads him to Southside Estates Ball Park where he coached
recreational baseball and girl's softball for many years. During that time
he touched many lives and to quote just one of them, "he was loved by twice
as many". Tony also loved to dance, probably because of his amazing partner
and wife of 41 years, Edna Mae who passed away in April, 2001.
Tony is survived by sons Ronald B. and wife Deborah DeGuzman, Dennis and
wife Jodie DeGuzman, Anthony J. Lazar wife Suzanne, Clayton J. Lazar and
wife Michele, Allan Smith and wife Nina all of Jacksonville, Florida. Benny
DeGuzman of Tortola,BVI. Daughters Lorrie Moses and husband John, of
Cumming, Georgia, Anita L. DeGuzman-Jones of Alpharetta, Georgia and Teresa
M. Brown husband Jason Brown of Jacksonville, FL.
Grand children Christopher Chandler and his wife Linda, Nathan DeGuzman,
Danielle Pouzet and her husband Julien, Billy and Nicole DeGuzman, Alexis
and Jacob Lazar, Erin Fowler, Austin DeGuzman, Lennon, Maxwell and Zoe Jones
and Charlotte Brown. Great grandchildren Makenna Stevenson and Pierre Jayden Pouzet. He is survived
by siblings George and his wife Lou DeGuzman and Romy and his wife Evangeline DeGuzman who both reside in California.
The visitation service will be held at 5:00 Friday, April 30, 2010 and
service to follow at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 850 St. John's Bluff Road
N, Jacksonville, Fl 32225. His final resting place will be the Arlington
National Cemetery, Washington DC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for
donations to the American Cancer Society.
