Faye Altwater Bowman Mobley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 28, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, creativity, and love.
Faye was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 29, 1937, to Rea Altwater and Caroline Evans. From an early age, Faye was a caring and responsible young woman who helped her mother care for her three younger siblings. Those early years helped shape the devotion to family that remained such an important part of her life.
Faye graduated from Lee High School in 1956 as the salutatorian of her graduating class.
Faye was an artist at heart. She designed clothing & some of her clothing designs were featured in the Florida Times-Union. She also loved painting and some of her paintings won awards, were in art galleries, & even sold on commission.
Throughout her working life, Faye served as a secretary and eventually retired from Winn-Dixie.
Faye’s faith was at the center of who she was. She was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Macclenny, where she loved singing in the church choir.
Faye will be remembered for her artistic spirit, her love of family, her devotion to God, her love of music and singing, her sense of humor, and the many memories she created for those fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her brother, Rea Altwater Jr.; her sister, Shirley Altwater; her two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rea Altwater and Caroline Evans, her sister Margaret Cahan, two husbands, Jim Bowman and Wilbur Mobley, her two children, and two of her grandchildren.
Though Faye is no longer here to sing, paint, design, laugh, or gather her family around her, the things she gave to those she loved will remain. Her life was a gift, and her memory will continue to live in the hearts of her family and all who knew and loved her.
Rest peacefully, Faye. Your song has been sung, but your melody will remain with us.
