Filomeno was born in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines to Emilio and Josefina DeGuzman on November 22, 1943. He was the 3rd born of 10 children. He enlisted with the US Navy at age of 23, and retired after 20 years of service. He continued his career with the US Post office until his final retirement. Filomeno worked arduously to raise and provide for all his family. He was a very loving and selfless man. He lived the rest of his years following his dream by building a life, enjoying many months, annually, in the Philippines. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten by very many.
Filomeno is survived by his wife of 45 years, Juanita DeGuzman; daughter, Charito Alley (Jeremy); son, Jimmy DeGuzman (Sina); 6 grandchildren, Nathan, John “JD”, Kayla, Alexander John “AJ”, Nicolas, Daniel John “DJ”, his 9 siblings, Niconor, Carmencita, Roseny, Melanio, Alfredo, Juliet, Nancy, Romeo, and Richard; many nieces nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Emilio and Josefina DeGuzman.
A celebration of Filomeno’s life will be held on May 26, 2020 at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. Visitation will be held at 9:30AM, and funeral service will begin at 11:00AM. Due to social distancing guidelines, only 35 people are permitted. The family has already reached out to those who will attend but floral arrangements may be sent Monday May, 25 in time for service for the following day and condolences may be shared with the family on this site.
Filomeno will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
