Mr Guthrie was my favorite and most interesting customer when I was selling Chevrolets at Jake Sutherlin-Jack Lynch Chevrolet in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. To this day I think of him
And his friend Buddy Cosby often. Forrest was the kindest man I ever met and a true man of God. I remember him inviting into his home to complete some paperwork and such hospitality. 
I was just a young kid in the 70’s and in management so Mr Sutherlin asked me to handle the sale. We talked about his life in the secret service and He told me the story of being at the Kennedy Compound and was the one to inform President Kennedy that he had won the election. 
He told me President Kennedy was a very nice man. I think he enjoyed me asking him a million questions during our friendship. I was thinking about him again today and was an honor to know him. No doubt in my mind he is with Jesus Christ.

I remember Mr. Guthrie as being such a nice, gentle man.  I was a friend of his daughter, Jill.  My heart is so saddened to learn not only of his death, but of Jill's as well.  My deepest sympathy is extended to the family - I felt like they were my family during the early-mid 70's.

Growing up on Shipwreck Circle I heard many legendary names of honorable men with full lives and exciting stories.  I am so sorry to hear we have lost another.  My condolences to the family.

Sorry we just found out of Forrest Gwyn today and very sorry that we didn't know about his passing.  Our sincere condolences.  I have fond memories of Forrest Gwyn growing up and when he lived with his Uncle Doyle and Aunt Lucille, my self and brother Billy in Atlanta after  WWII.   Also, I remember once when we were in Birmingham and making him late for a  date with Marilou.  Your Dad and Mom stopped by here once a few years ago for a short visit.  He will be missed by all........

My sincere condolences to Marilou and family.  Forrest hired me in Jacksonville on January 20, 1969 as a USSS agent, and was responsible for my field office training before I was transferred to Washington, DC in 1971.  He was also responsible for requesting my transfer back to Jacksonville in 1974, for which I will always be greatful.  Forrest was like a second father to me, and no one could have been a better example.  Forrest retired in 1977, but was always available to me and other Jacksonville agents for advice throughout the rest of our careers.  Forrest was a good man, a good friend, and will be sorely missed.

My life is much richer for having had the priviledge of being associated with Forrest professionally and the joy of becoming good friends over the years through our participation in AFAUSSS events.

I celebrate the life of Forrest one of God's greatest and most selfless servants who has gone home.

Blessed to have him in my life and will carry him in my heart til we see each other again. I honor him and will be forever grateful for his friendship, unwavering service and loyalty to his Country, his Family, and his Community.

I applied for a special agent position at the behest of two agents who I worked with in my capacity as a deputy sheriff in Gainesville, FL, circa late 1975.  I was hired pretty quickly and sent to Miami where my career started.  I have always been grateful to those who gave me the opportunity to work for a great agency to include those Jacksonville and Orlando agents who conducted my background investigation.  Mr. Guthrie was certainly one of the "Old Breed."

I did not know Mr Guthrie but I know his daughter Karen. To Mrs Gurthrie & the surviving members of his family my thoughts & prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I pray that God will give you courage & strength in the coming days, weeks & months and Peace of Mind knowing that Mr Guthrie lived a full & meaningful life protecting our country & those who have served as President of the United States. Rest in Peace Mr Guthrie!

I first met Forrest at the Jacksonvillle Office. I was assigned there for 6 months, before being transferred to the LBJ Ranch, Stonewall, Tx. in Dec. 1968. My wife, Mary Ann was pregnant and he was so protective of her and wanted me to keep him up to date on her progress. The baby, a boy was born on Oct. 1st, the same day the county was incorporated into the city or Vice versa. He liked me and we became friends for almost 50 years. I had a deep respect for Forrest. I am glad I got to see him last year at our Spring Fling. I also bought one of his books and he signed it with a nice note. I am very proud of his career and his book. God bless you Marilou and your children, Grand Children and Great Grand Children. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. So sorry.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Forrest on several protection details and other investigations as SAIC of IRS CI in Jacksonville and also as a fellow church member. He was a true gentlemen! My condolences to his family.

Loved this man dearly he was a great freind not only to me but to my mom and dad as well, wish I could sit in the backyard and listen to the stories they would tell sitting by the fire pit.  Was so glad he got to meet my daughter on one of his trips to alabama. R.I.P. Mr G

Forrest was my first contact when being hired by the Secret Service in 1965 and good friend through these many years.  Mary Lou and I are saddened with the passing of our good friend but celebrate his moving to his heavenly home with God.  It is a far better place with no more sorrow or pain.  Continued prayers for Marilou and the family during this difficult time.  Please fill each one with calmness, courage, strength and hope.  May each know You are with them and will not leave them.
