December 31, 1964 – October 15, 2026
Fred “Wally” Wallace Powell, 61, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at his residence in Bryceville, Florida surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless stories, and a lasting legacy of love that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Fred was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to Grover Wallace Powell and Nancy Barber Powell. He was raised in Marietta, Florida, and graduated from Ed White High School in 1983. He was a hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to providing for his family. He began working for Pat Salmon and Sons at 23, where he remained for 30 years until health issues led to his retirement in 2017. Fred was a Christian and attended Lake Forest Church of Christ, where he shared in the fellowship of his faith. His years of hard work reflected his determination and commitment, and the values he lived by will continue to live on through the family he loved.
Fred married Cheryl Sizemore, on September 22, 1995, in Jacksonville, Florida. He moved his family to Bryceville, Florida in 2001. They shared 31 years of marriage and raised two children, whom he loved dearly and was incredibly proud of.
Outside of work, he found happiness in the simple things. He loved fishing, being on the water, going to the races, keeping his yard looking good, enjoying a good meal and watching comedy movies. Music was another favorite, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd and classic country.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Powell; his son, Brandon Sizemore; his daughter, Brean Thompson (Trenton Thompson); his cherished grandson, Tucker Thompson; his father, Grover Powell; his sister, Tami Horne; and his brother, Jody Powell; his mother-in-law, Laynette Sizemore; sister-in-law, Melinda Morris (Bob Morris) along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Barber Powell; and his brother-in-law, David Horne
Though his time here has come to an end, his stories will continue to be told, his favorite songs will continue to play, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family takes comfort in the hope of being reunited with him one day in heaven.
