Gail, the youngest of Archibald and Janie Dunlop’s three children, was born November 11, 1932. A graduate of Fletcher Senior High, she was attending the University of Florida when her brother, Tommy, introduced her to Ensign Don Hull-Ryde, a very handsome, charismatic Navy officer from New York. Don's naval career took Gail and their family around the world, and she loved each and every minute getting to know the wonderful people in other countries and their unique customs. Gail's passion was entertaining friends and family as often as possible. Her guests often referred to her as the “consummate hostess.” She made every occasion a special one, meticulously designing menus, flower arrangements and tablescapes and always making her guests feel like royalty. Gail made an effort never to miss her Gators play a game. Whether it was foot ball, basketball or baseball, you could always find her tuned in and rooting the Gators on with great gusto! Gail often said some of her fondest memories were of growing up on Neptune and Atlantic Beaches with her high school classmates who remained lifelong friends.
Her parents; husband, Don; and her beloved brothers, Tommy and Gus Dunlop, predeceased Gail. She leaves behind one daughter, Cathy Smith; three sons Ted, Brett and Greg Hull-Ryde; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Gail’s life Monday, July 21, 10:30 a.m., in the Windward Hall Building, Fleet Landing, Atlantic Beach. The burial service will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
