Gary Lynn Huskey PhD.

With sorrow the family of Gary Huskey announces Gary’s departure for his last great adventure. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1942, Gary moved with his family to DeSoto, Missouri, attending public schools there and graduating from DeSoto High School in 1960. Gary then graduated from Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau. He still has beloved friends and family there.

Gary loved life and had a characteristic positive outlook to the end. Gary enjoyed traveling with his wife, Rosemary and they had many wonderful trips together; including in North America, Central America, South America, Hawaii and Europe. Gary also loved cheering for his favorite sports teams, especially the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Tampa Bay Rays the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Florida Gators.

Gary made an impact on the world as a lifetime educator, first as a teacher and then as an administrator in Hillsborough County Schools in Tampa, Florida. Gary earned his PhD in Educational Administration from Nova University in 1990. He served as Dean and then Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson High School, then as Principal at James Buchanan Seventh Grade Center and Principal at Martin Van Buren Junior High School. He had a reputation for being the “remodeling” principal and was frequently placed wherever improvements were needed. He retired from his position as principal at Chamberlain High School in 1998. Gary also served on the Board of the Suncoast Credit Union for many years and had great friends and good memories of his times there.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ancil Huskey and Mildred Lobsinger, stepfather Verne Lobsinger and his wife of fifty-two years, Rosemary Diettrich Huskey. He is survived by son Michael Clayton Huskey, sister Diane Huskey Bright, niece, Courtney Bright, stepdaughter Elizabeth (Carl) Bero and five grandchildren; Cooper Huskey, Emily Huskey, Carolyn Bero, Christopher Bero and Katherine Bero.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to donate to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. https://hstb.org/
