

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Retired JSO Police Lieutenant George William Grant (ID #6304). George peacefully passed away at home after succumbing to a terminal illness. George's wife, family, and friends were by his side.
George was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 20, 1957. He passed on August 24, 2025, at 68 years old.
George is survived by his wife, Brenda Petteway Grant, sister Sandra Murdock Grant, brother James Robert Grant Jr. . Three daughters Amanda Grant, Laila Akhavansafa (Ricco Anderson, husband), Lana Meredith (Charles Meredith, husband). Three grandsons Ashton Anderson, Kingston Anderson, Chase Meredith, and many nieces/nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James Robert Grant Sr., mother, Eugenia Baltezgar Grant and sister, Deborah Lyn Grant.
In 1978 - 1987, George was a JSO Reserve Officer, where he moved through the ranks to Captain. In 1987, he became a JSO Officer. He was a Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, and moved through the ranks to become a Sergeant, Detective Lieutenant, and retired as a Lieutenant in Zone 1. During his active duty, he escorted safety patrol to Washington D.C., he volunteered as a camp counselor for Hospice's Camp Healing Powers, and before/after retirement, he was an instructor at the JSO Police Academy.
George received an Associate in Science in Criminal Justice Technology from FCCJ and a Bachelor of Science "Magna Cum Laude" from Liberty University.
Rite Worshipful George W. Grant was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. In 2020, he was the Worshipful Master of J. Wendell Fargis Lodge #356, 2022 he was the President of Beaches Shrine Club, and 2023-2024 he was the Masonic District Deputy Grand Master of Florida.
George requested to be cremated, followed by a graveside service. The service will be at Hardage - Giddens Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St. Johns Bluff North, Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday August 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to Shriner’s Children's Hospital.
