

Gladys E. Muscaro, 97, of Jacksonville, passed away on May 30, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, James August Muscaro, Sr. on July 31, 1986; son, James August Muscaro, Jr. on November 6, 2002; and daughter, Betty Ann Muscaro on April 13, 2007; father, William Joseph Hoffman; mother, Hulda Elizabeth Carlson Hoffman; stepmother, Selma Bloomquist Peterson Hoffman; sister, Geraldine Alice Hoffman Leary Furness; brother, Gerald William Hoffman; stepsisters, Avor Siecker, Shirley Stone, and Irene Hawkins; stepbrothers, Gus Peterson and Art Peterson; nephew, Duke Gheres. She leaves behind her daughter, Barbara Sue Muscaro Baker; two grandsons, Jason Oliver Baker and Nathan James Baker; great-grandson, Brenden James Baker; sister, Adaline Bertha Hoffman Potter; nieces, Tenna Smith, Bernita Welker, Marla Verbosky, Janice Dehmler, Linda Durstine, Gloria Swick, Joan Hulings, Carol Main, Cindy Alm; nephews, Bill Leary and Terry McKinney; other extended family and many special friends. Gladys was born in Warren, PA, on October 4, 1915, and worked at an early age to help the family. For a short time she was a waitress and a cigar maker. She was married on April 19, 1937, which lasted for over 49 years. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1953 where she lived until her passing as a devoted and caring mother. She was affectionately known by her husband as “honey bunch” and friends called her “happy bottom.” Through the years, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, coloring, traveling, scrabble, watching television, and crossword puzzles. She loved card games (Canasta, Rummy, and SkipBo). Gladys enjoyed attending the Mandarin Senior Center playing Bingo where she had lots of good friends and memories. Her favorite quote was, “Always save for a rainy day.” Gladys will be honored and remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Thanks to the staff associated with the Earl B. Hadlow Hospice Center and their volunteer, Kelly Galano, for her weekly visits. Additional thanks go out to Michelle Mitchell, volunteer, from Hart-Felt Ministries for her weekly visits. A very, very special thank you for her caregivers, Donna Kibbe and Louise Messer. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Visitation and funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, from 1:00-3:00 pm. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Chaplain David Holladay officiating. Pallbearers include: Jason Oliver Baker, Brenden James Baker, Ricky Ward, Labarron Plenty, Marty Rawson, and Louise Messer.
