She died at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Gracie was an incredible person with a zeal for life and the gift of bringing light and laughter wherever she went. Gracie served her country during WWII at the Naval Air Station and the Jacksonville Shipyards, working in artillery munitions production, as a welder, and as an aircraft mechanic. She was a Charter member of Beaver Street Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. In her later years, she was an active member of Westside Baptist Church. Mrs. Wheeler was strong in her faith and had a true calling to help others. A Prayer Warrior, Gracie believed in the power of God and was called upon by many in need. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with family and friends.
Gracie was predeceased in death by husbands: Roy Hubert Howard Jr. and Joseph C Wheeler. Daughter, Linda Lee Howard Holloway. Grandson William Clyde Howard Jr. And Stepdaughter Donna Rotino. And many other loved ones.
Mrs. Wheeler was survived by her son William Clyde Howard and his wife, Brenda. Granddaughters: Rhonda Stidham and husband Keith, Angie Glisson and husband Mark, and Denise Howard. Great-granddaughter Christina Hodges (Caleb) and great-great-granddaughter Delilah. Grandsons: Steven Glisson (Caytee) and Jarrett Glisson (Madison). And great grandchildren Jayce, Baylee, and Oakley Glisson. Her sister Jean Y. Clapp and family and loving niece Kim Scalf and great nieces Pennie and Sherri Davis and family. Her sister-in-law Pat Sullivan and family. Son-in-Law Ronald Holloway (Janice).
Her stepson and daughter Ronnie and Joanna Wheeler. Grandsons Paul and John Wheeler, and Kevin and Menchie Rotino and great granddaughter Mellissa, Renee and Ross Schweitzer, and great-grandson Colton Wheeler. And many other loved ones.
Gracie Wheeler touched so many lives, from friends to family to strangers. There are no words to describe the loss that will be felt by all who knew her.
A visitation for Gracie will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, service at 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
