Hal was born in Chadbourn, NC on September 12, 1926 to parents John Yates and Lilly Hedgepeth Yates. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then went on to get a Degree in Business from University of NC. Hal went to work for the ACL Railroad in 1952 in Wilmington, NC and made the mass move to Jacksonville, FL in 1960. Hal was a Charter member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jeannie, and 2 brothers, Raymond Yates and Lenton Yates. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen F. Yates; a son, Hal N. Yates, Jr. (Judy Beach); one grandson, Bradley H. Yates (Jennifer Mills); daughter-in-law, Brenda M. Yates; one brother, Jack Yates (Arlene); sister in law, Bobbie Yates; and many nieces & nephews.
