The greatest woman we ever knew, Halima Korey, 89, of Jacksonville, Fl., went into the arms of her heavenly father to join her loving and faithful husband, Joseph Korey Sr. on March 24, 2011. She was born May, 10, 1921, Beirut, Lebanon. Known as EMMA, most of her life, she was a mother and embraced her profession in her personal relationships with her children. She did not only raise us, but most importantly, she taught us about life. She survived by her only remaining sister, Maria Reyes, her children Elizabeth Millard , Mary Johnson, Dorothy McGrew (John), Joseph Korey (Cheryl), Leo Korey and a very special niece Cecelia Fisher, treasured nephew, Bobby Fisher, Grandchildren Laurie, Angie, Troy, Greg, James, David (pre-deceased) Korey, Bobby, Brandon, Cole, 10 Great-Grandchildren, one Great-Great Grandson, and valued friends and neighbors. Never again will any of us experience the way she welcomed people into her home. Her amiable personality and ever-helpful disposition made a delight of every visit to see her. She cooked countless Sunday dinners, was known for her kibba and grape leaves, was a skilled crotchetier and spoke 3 languages. She was a great baseball fan but her favorite accomplishment was entertaining. Anytime was a good time. Her faith never wavered, and she trusted everyone at all times. Lover of feeding people until they were full and then again, and really until the begged her to stop, never letting anyone leave without a gift, food or trinket in hand and making you feel like you were the most special person in the world. Her favorite memory of her childhood was watching her brother play "stick" ball and the joining in, at a time when girls didn't really play. Consistently voted Democrat and became feisty if you criticized the pope, she loved Billy Graham and was the only person that we know who never made an enemy. The viewing will be held at Town & Country Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 29, from 6-8PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, march 30 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Family and friends welcome.
